Services will operate across multiple AWS regions, with a strong focus on performance, security and regional data restrictions.
The contract covers a build phase of just over a year, followed by hypercare and further features. Responsibilities will broaden after launch as services delivered by a third party are handed over.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial TypeScript experience across application development, frontend code and AWS workloads
- Strong hands on AWS CDK experience provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- Practical experience building and deploying applications using Amazon ECS
- Frontend development experience with React or a React based framework
- Understanding of secure handling of personal information, including safe application logging and regional data restrictions
- Ability to make technical decisions independently, set standards and improve engineering processes
- Experience contributing to code reviews, robust testing, test driven development and pair programming
- Understanding of cloud architecture, including reliability, security, scalability, performance and operating costs
- Typically four or more years of development experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates with less experience
- Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, adaptability and a focus on customer needs
Desirable Experience:
- Auth0 and customer authentication systems
- Customer account management platforms, including registration, verification and profile management
- Delivering services across multiple AWS regions
- ECS with Fargate and server side rendering
- AWS Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB
- Familiarity with GraphQL, Contentful and GitHub
Responsibilities:
- Develop secure, reliable and scalable customer account functionality using TypeScript
- Build and maintain an account profile microservice and the interfaces needed for customer account changes
- Develop backend APIs using Lambda and API Gateway, with DynamoDB for storage
- Build frontend applications with server side rendering, most likely deployed through ECS and Fargate
- Provision and maintain AWS infrastructure using CDK
- Deliver services across multiple regions while respecting regional data restrictions
- Protect personal information throughout application processing and logging
- Apply robust testing practices, participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards
- Collaborate with internal colleagues and third party delivery teams to meet agreed requirements
- Identify technical debt and opportunities to improve performance, cloud costs and development processes
- Support the platform through launch, hypercare and subsequent feature delivery

Immediate availability or a notice period of around one month is preferred.
The selection process includes an infrastructure task for a globally available web application timeboxed to 3.5 hours, followed by an interview of approximately 90 minutes. A further interview may be required.
